Paul V. says: The city around Offut AFB is a great metro city! Most millionaires per capita. If you go to UpStrem in downtown it's a great restaurant with a pool hall and bar upstairs! Old Omaha has lots to do at night. Spaghetti Works horse drawn carriage rides and one of the best homemade icecream shops ever! Enjoy it there!

Misty asks: We just found out we are heading to Offutt AFB this summer. I was wandering if anyone would like to pass along some good information about the base/town. Our main concern right now is base housing for an E6 and the school system. Also any information you could pass along for sports/activities for our 9 yr old daughter would also be helpful. She is very active in soccer and softball right now. Thank you!!

Sarah H. says: Get into West Side School district!!!

Trisha G. says: My dad was stationed there and I grew up there...my family still lives in Omaha which is about 25 mins from bellevue (where offutt is) you're going to love Nebraska the sayin with Offutt is "Once you get on it you can get "Off It" :)

Yvonne M. says: We were supposed to go there in Dec. but they changed their mind.

Tish A. says: We are getting stationed there next month!! I hear it's amazing and very kid friendly! Children's Museum Planetarium and The Zoo nearby in Omaha. I've been looking at www.risingview.com for base housing info and pics as well as some community info.

Callista K. says: We are currently stationed at offutt and love it! Definitely kid friendly with museums zoo ( which is undergoing major renovations) and so many more!! On base housing (as well as off-base on base housing) has just been newly built and they are quite nice. If you want to live off base ( we do) ere are always houses for sale (and as an E6 it will be no problem for your bah to cover costs easily). Great cities to live in are Bellevue papillion (a little pricier) or plattsmouth ( country and cheaper but about 15 minutes from base). We live in Bellevue and really like it here. Nice quiet neighborhood- lots of kids around- there's even a nice park and walking path in our development. There are plenty of soccer leagues around as well as dance gymnastic and karate studios around. The base always does a ton of family friendly events- picnics programs. In the summer there's a summer reading program through the base library where the kids get prizes for reading. It's always a big event here. As for school. I only know about kindergarten as that is my daughter's grade- she was at fort crook but I wasn't happy with her there- i didn't think she was learning enough. I donhear that the older grades are better there though. I am now homeschooling her. I did hear lemay is really good. There are also a number of private schools around ( mostly catholic ones and 1 Lutheran I believe). I think I could go on and on....

Callista says:

We are stationed at Offutt air force base in Nebraska. My husband is active duty air force and is in a support squadron for the E-4B. There are so many things available here on base- one of the biggest gyms (housed in an old Enola Gay hanger) new BX and a nice commissary. There are always tons of family and kids events going on around base- very family friendly!!

Omahamom.com is a great site to find out all sorts of things for kids!!
